Volunteers are needed to help cleanup the gym in preparation for the parish anniversary dinner and for the All Souls party. We begin following the 9:00 a.m. Mass Saturday, October 10.
October 18 we celebrate the anniversary of the consecration of our church. This special anniversary will be marked by a catered dinner in the gym. The cost of the dinner will be $7.25 for adults and $4.00 for children if bought in advance. Tickets at the door are $8.25 and $4.75. Tickets can be bought in the bookstore or parish hall following Masses. Activities for the children are planned. The Knights of Columbus are planning an honor guard for the occasion.
The parish activities Committee meeting of scheduled for this month will be transferred to November 7th, at 11:00 a.m.
On November 1, We celebrate the feast of All souls and will have the annual All Saints Party for children and adults. The Knights of Columbus will be selling spaghetti dinners.
On November 1, the Knights of Columbus will begin a food drive to help feed the hungry for Thanksgiving. Canned and dried foods will be accepted in the parish hall. Donations will be accepted to help get certificates for turkeys from local stores.
November 2 is the feast of All Souls. This feast is of special importance as we remember and pray for all those who have gone on before us. Masses will be held throughout the day so all may have an opportunity to come and pray for the dead. There will also be a special Novena of Masses for the poor souls. Envelopes can be found in the pews.
On All Souls' Day a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit any parish church or public oratory and there recite one Our Father and one Credo. On all the days from November I though November 8 inclusive, a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray even if only mentally for the departed. Conditions for both indulgences: Only one plenary indulgence can be granted per day. It is necessary to be in the state of grace, at least by completion of the work. Freedom from attachment to sin, even venial sin, is necessary; otherwise the indulgence is only partial. (By this is meant attachment to a particular sin, not sin in general.) Holy Communion must be received each time the indulgence is sought. Prayers must he recited for the intentions of the Holy Father on each day the indulgence is sought. (No particular prayers are prescribed. One Our Father and one Hail Mary suffice, or other suitable prayers. A sacramental concession must he made within a week of completion of the prescribed work.
In view of the coming flu season, please keep some basic precautions in mind. If you are sick, it is better to stay home and recuperate on Sunday, then to possibly spread contagious viruses.
